Description:
Kroeng Krawia is the most potent and psychedelic of all Thai landraces, renowned throughout Thailand for its intense psychoactive effects and unique aromatic profile. Despite its legendary status, remarkably little is known about this enigmatic strain, adding to its mystique and allure.
The plants grow tall and lanky with a large internodal distance, showcasing the classic narrow-leafed sativa morphology of ancient Southeast Asian landraces. They produce stacked clusters of loose foxtails, covered in a thick layer of trichomes that shimmer under sunlight, giving the buds a crystalline, frosty appearance.
The aroma profile is unlike any other Thai landrace, combining intense incense notes with a bright lemon citrus scent, creating a complex and captivating fragrance.
The psychoactive effects are deeply cerebral and psychedelic, delivering a clear-headed, euphoric high with intense visual and auditory distortions, reminiscent of ancient Thai sativas known for their psychedelic potency.
This landrace is cultivated using open pollination, preserving the genetic diversity and natural vigor of the Tenasserim Hills lineage. It is known for its resilience to tropical heat and humidity, thriving in the rugged mountainous terrain of Sangkhlaburi.

Context:
Kroeng Krawia originates from the Tenasserim Hills of Western Thailand, a remote and culturally rich region known for its ancient trade routes and ethnic diversity. The area is home to a mosaic of Karen, Mon, and Burmese communities, who have traditionally cultivated cannabis for medicinal, spiritual, and recreational purposes.
Despite its legendary status as one of the most potent Thai landraces, very little is known about the history of Kroeng Krawia. Its psychedelic potency has fueled myths and folklore, with some locals believing it possesses spiritual properties capable of inducing profound visions and mystical experiences. The name Kroeng Krawia is shrouded in mystery.
Kroeng Krawia is also known as Graeng Grawia or Kering Kravia, terms that likely have Malay, Thai, Mon or Karen linguistic roots, reflecting the cultural diversity of the Tenasserim Hills. Some locals believe the name relates to the incense-like aroma, as the word "Kroeng" is used in some local dialects to describe fragrant herbs and spices.
Historically, the Tenasserim Hills served as a crossroads of ancient trade routes connecting Burma (Myanmar), Thailand and the Malay Peninsula, facilitating the exchange of cannabis genetics and agricultural knowledge across Southeast Asia. This unique geographical location has shaped the genetic diversity and psychoactive potency of Kroeng Krawia, preserving ancient phenotypes that are increasingly rare in modern cannabis.
However, the political landscape of Western Thailand has changed drastically. Following Thai legalization in 2022, traditional landrace cultivation has been threatened by the introduction of modern hybrids and economic pressures, pushing many farmers to abandon their fields. The current status of Kroeng Krawia is unknown, and the strain is at risk of extinction due to genetic introgression and cultural erosion.

The current status of Kroeng Krawia is unknown. Political changes and the introduction of modern hybrids have drastically reduced traditional landrace cultivation in Sangkhlaburi. Many farmers have abandoned their fields, leading to a genetic bottleneck and risk of extinction.
Éloïse and Iza plan to return to Sangkhlaburi in 2025 to assess the situation and determine if any authentic landrace cultivation remains.
